Getting around Puerto Vallarta at night
Within the Romantic Zone, walk. The neighborhood is compact, dense with people until 3-4am on weekends, and completely pedestrian-friendly.
Between neighborhoods, use Uber or Didi — both work in PV, prices are fixed before you confirm.
Between neighborhoods
Keep both apps installed — availability varies by time of night. Expect $5–12 USD between most tourist zones. InDrive also operates if surge pricing hits.
Street taxis
Available everywhere and run later than apps when demand is high. Always agree on a price before you get in — PV taxis don't use meters. Romantic Zone to Hotel Zone: $10–15 USD. After 2am, add ~30%.
Safety basics
Stay in main tourist areas at night (Malecón, Romantic Zone, Marina, Hotel Zone). Keep your phone in your pocket when not in use. Carry small bills. PV's tourist zones are genuinely safe — city common sense applies.
LGBTQ+ travelers
PV is one of Mexico's safest destinations for LGBT visitors. The Romantic Zone has been openly gay-friendly for decades — same-sex couples move through it at night without issue.
